- Duration: 8 weeks
Canon Law is an understudied area of Coptic Orthodox Ecclesiology. The Church is governed first and foremost by Christ the head of the Church, and the body of Christ consisting of the Bishops (represented in the Holy Synod) and the Priest, Deacons and laity. Students will survey primarily the Alexandrian Canons and the principle of “binding” and “loosening” the canons in the practice of clergy. These canons will cover a range of subjects such as marriage, ordination, excommunication and more.
This course is offered only in the Spring 1 module (January-February, 2020).
