The importance of Christology for Coptic Orthodox Christianity cannot be understated. Quickly after, and even during, the life of the Lord Jesus Christ, many attempted to articulate the mystery of the Incarnate Logos. This course takes a close look at the nature of Christ, the Council of Chalcedon, and the role of Coptic Christology in the late antique and medieval Egypt. This course is 3-credit hours and can be applied to a Certificate in Coptic Orthodox Systematic Theology and a Master’s in Coptic Orthodox Theology.

This course (BIBL 604) analyzes Egyptian history and culture, utilizing archaeological, textual, and iconographic sources. Biblical narratives that are set in Egypt, or where Israelite history intersects with Egypt, will be examined, with special emphasis on the Hebrew sojourn and Exodus.
